Music and Its History

Although, we listen to music and enjoy it in different ways under different conditions and circumstances, there is no single definition for music.
The definition of music divaricates with the change of nations, traditions, cultures or even person.
To some, music may be a voice or sound that makes them feel soothing and harmonious while for others it may be something to motivate, excite and alleviate the moods through high bass.
The history of music expands between prehistoric to recent times.
It is enriched with big names of great musicians.
It can be divided into the following eras: Ancient Music and the Middle Ages Music's origin goes back to the prehistoric eras.
Evidences of musical instruments are found in Moenjodar or The Indus Valley Civilization, Pakistan.
The civilization dates back 6000 BC and instruments like flutes made up of bones with lateral holes in them are found there.
Ancient Egyptians believed that one of their gods, Thoth invented music and another god named Osiris used it to civilize the people of the world.
In ancient Greece, music was an important part of life.
They had different spiritual and cultural ceremonies in which musicians played music.
They were used to educate their children with music in a proper manner.
This era that followed is known as the Middle Ages.
It was the time between 476 and 1400 AD, when melody was common in the form of Gregorian chant.
Gregorian chants were heard from Roman Catholic churches of that time.
The Renaissance and the Baroque Eras It was during 1400 to 1750, when proper printing presses were made to print melodical sheets and Kings and princes would compose the music.
Different instruments like brass strings, woodwinds, pipe organ and harpsichord were used to play the music.
Johann Sebastian Bach, George Frideric Handel, and Georg Philipp Telemann are the famous music composers from the later Baroque Era.
The Classical and the Romantic Eras Before the Classical Era, music was limited to the aristocratic people but now common music composers could also survive.
Public concerts started to become famous and opera houses and performing arts theatres were built.
Among some famous name of classical music are Mozart, Beethoven and Christian Bach.
Following classical music came the romantic era.
In this period music simply got more refined.
In earlier times, music and performances were made regarding serious issues, stories and myths while in the romantic era comedy and romance was cajoled in the music.
20th and 21st Century Music Music extensively evolved during this period, creating dozens of types of music and instruments that plays them.
Different types include: Rock n Roll, Hip Hop, Jazz, Funk, Techno and many more.
Some of the modern instruments today are bass guitar and drums, piano, saxophone, harmonica and many others.
