- 1). Apply valve oil and slide grease along the inside and outside edge of the slide that is stuck. The valve oil has a thinner consistency than the grease, so it is more likely to get in the cracks, while the grease can help move the slide.
- 2). Spray WD-40 or another spray lubricant along the edge of the tuning slide.
- 3). Let the trumpet sit for a few hours or overnight so that the various lubricants can break down the corrosion that binds the slide inside the trumpet.
- 4). Wrap a cloth around the slide and clamp a set of vice grips to the horn. Firmly but gently pull on the slide and try to get it to come out. The cloth should protect the trumpet from being dented.
