- In general, only U.S. citizens, permanent residents and legal aliens residing in Illinois qualify for Illinois Medicaid. U.S. citizens must provide U.S. passports, birth certificates or other proof of citizenship or naturalization. Legal aliens must provide green cards or other proof of immigration status.
- Illinois Medicaid income requirements vary depending on the benefits needed. For example, pregnant women applying for the KidCare Moms and Babies program cannot make more than double the federal poverty level (FPL). As of 2010, the FPL for a family of one is $10,830 per year or $902.50 per month.
- Illinois Medicaid only covers individuals and families with specific needs. People covered include pregnant women, families with children under 18, low-income breast and cervical cancer patients, the elderly, the blind and the disabled.
