How to Apply for Medi-Cal in California

    • 1). Contact or visit a local social service office to retrieve a Medi-Cal application. If you don't know where the nearest office is located, a directory, along with contact information, is located on the Medi-Cal webpage. If prefer the application be mailed, you don't have to visit the office; call the office, ask for an application and provide an address.

    • 2). Read the instructions thoroughly and provide the requested information. If there is a request for personal documentation, include it with your application, otherwise it will be considered incomplete. If you need help completing your application, contact your local office. After completing an application, personally return it to the office or mail the form back using the correct return address.

    • 3). Wait for the confirmation and the determination of your eligibility. The office will contact you directly by phone or mail to confirm your application was received. Contact information for the person handling your case is also included, as well, in case you have further questions. If you are applying for Medi-Cal and you have a disability, the decision process takes up to 90 days, otherwise the process takes 45 days.
