- 1). Send your payment with a traceable payment method, such as a check, money order or certified cashier's check.
- 2). Get proof of mailing and delivery when you send in the payment through certified mail or delivery confirmation. COBRA payments are considered made the day you send the payment to the plan, not when the plan received it. As long as you have proof of mailing, you can rest assured that your COBRA benefits won't expire.
- 3). Contact the COBRA administration department at your plan administrator, and ask whether it has received the payment. Your plan administrator's phone number should be listed on your COBRA paperwork. However, if you can't find the paperwork, contact your former employer and ask for the correct phone number.
