- 1). Select the type of hearing protection you consider the best for you. Some people are highly sensitive to ear buds, while others are not bothered by them. The same goes for ear caps and muffs.
- 2). Wear your ear protection in an environment with mild noise, such as a room with a loud TV. This allows you to check that the device is comfortable and fits properly, and that the minimal noise is blocked.
- 3). Increase the level of sound you are subjected to gradually until you are in a full work environment while wearing ear protection. If at any time the protection stops working properly or causes severe discomfort, stop using it and test another device. Test several devices until you find one that is reliable and comfortable for you.
