How to Fertilize Photinia

    • 1). Choose a complete, balanced fertilizer product for your photinia; look for a guaranteed analysis of 8-8-8. It can be slow- or fast-release, synthetic or organic, according to availability or your preference.

    • 2). Apply a 1/2 cup of the 8-8-8 fertilizer for every square yard of soil planted with photinia.

    • 3). Cast the fertilizer grains over the soil surface, or over the mulch if present. Keep the fertilizer grains at least one foot away from the main trunk to prevent over-concentration and burning.

    • 4). Water the fertilizer in immediately after application if rain is not imminent. Water lightly, if needed, sufficiently to wet the top 4 to 6 inches of soil. This will begin to distribute the fertilizer down into the root zone.
