How to Network the Air Card on a Desktop

    • 1). Click the "Start" menu.

    • 2). Type "Network and Sharing Center" in the search box at the bottom of the menu. Press "Enter" to load the Network and Sharing Center.

    • 3). Click "Set up a connection or network," located on the left side of the Network and Sharing Center window.

    • 4). Select "wireless ad hoc" network as the connection type and click the "Next" button.

    • 5). Type a name for the ad hoc network in the Network name field. This can be anything of your choosing, and it will constitute the name of the network to which other computers sharing your Internet access will connect.

    • 6). Select a network security type in the Security type menu. Windows Vista and Windows 7 allow ad hoc networks to be secured using either the Wired Equivalent Privacy (WEP) or Wi-Fi Protected Access 2 (WPA2) standard. WEP is compatible with a larger number of Wi-Fi adapters but WPA2 provides greater security.

    • 7). Type a passphrase is the Security key field. This must be 8 to 63 characters in length. This passphrase must also be entered on all other computers connecting to the networked Air Card.

    • 8). Check the box next to "Save this network" if you anticipate needing to network the Air Card frequently, as this will save the ad hoc network settings in the Network and Sharing Center control panel.

    • 9). Click "Next."

    • 10

Click "Turn on Internet connection sharing" in the confirmation window that appears after setting up the ad hoc network. When prompted, select the Air Card connection that you want to network to finalize Internet Connection Sharing.

    • 11

Click "Close" to end the ad hoc network setup wizard.
