How to Run the Recovery Console in Windows XP

    • 1). Open the CD / DVD drive and insert the Windows XP installation disc. Close the CD / DVD drive.

    • 2). Restart the computer. When the computer first starts follow the on-screen directions to open the boot menu.

    • 3). Select the option to boot from the CD / DVD drive. Allow the Windows XP setup program to load.

    • 4). Accept the end user license agreement by clicking the "F8" key. Press "R" when given the option to repair or recover.

    • 5). Enter the administrative password for your system when prompted. Type "Recovery Console Commands" minus the quotes at the command prompt. Use the listed commands to perform recovery console functions.
