- 1). Determine how you wish to help disabled veterans. You may want your funds to go directly to a veteran to help with housing, meals or other basic needs. Disabled veterans can often also use job training or morale boosting activities such as learning to surf.
- 2). Choose an organization that helps provide the desired service. Monterey Bay Veterans provides sports rehabilitation to veterans in the Monterey Bay and Santa Cruz area. AmpSurf teaches surfing to disabled veterans. Project Hired, in San Jose, assists disabled veterans in Santa Cruz looking for work. You can also call the Santa Cruz County Veteran Advocate at the University of California-Santa Cruz or the county Veterans Services Office for suggestions on organizations in need of support.
- 3). Donate money to the organization. You can contribute online, mail a check or call in a credit card contribution. AmpSurf also accepts donations of surfing equipment and other related items, and Project Hired will accept your vehicle through the Donate for Charity program. Call the organization directly to find out if they are accepting non-monetary donations.
