- 1). Secure a job offer from a UK-based employer. This can include multinational companies that have a presence in both your home country and the UK. If you qualify as a highly skilled worker, investor, entrepreneur, or recently graduated UK university student, you may skip this step and go straight to step 2.
- 2). Pass a points-based assessment administered by the UK Border Agency. This test measures both how your presence would benefit the UK, as well as how successfully they think that you would be able to integrate into UK society. It includes several tiers based on your skill levels.
- 3). Familiarize yourself with the different points-based assessment levels so that you can take the correct assessment. As of March 2010, Tier 1 covers highly skilled workers, investors, entrepreneurs, and students who have graduated recently from UK universities. Tier 2 covers skilled workers who are sponsored by a UK-based company. Tier 5 covers temporary workers employed in various fields.
