When I was younger, I never heard anybody complained about me being noisy in bed.
I've slept over with friends a couple of times and yet no water was thrown into me for snoring.
Well there was one time I woke with charcoal all over my face, but that was another story.
Today, I am only saved by the working time difference between me and my wife.
Otherwise, every night I might end up getting hit by a pillow or covered with whatever.
Snoring can be a huge household issue.
Absent a credible way of dealing with it, it can cause turbulence to relationships, especially those who are already rocky.
Causes and Cures Although not necessarily the main cause of snoring, alcohol is perhaps the most notorious causes of snoring.
Perhaps because the act itself is already unpopular, especially to wives.
Truth is alcohol causes the throat muscles to relax too much thus blocking the respiratory passage.
Snoring cure? Simple.
Don't drink alcohol.
Coming at close second is smoking.
Actually not all smokers snore owing more to genetic factors than the innocence of smoking.
But when it does cause snoring it means that nicotine and other accompanying deposits have restricted the air passage at the alveoli.
Remedy? Again quite obvious.
Don't smoke! Some people have through the years developed a habit of breathing through the mouth.
It can be a biological defect.
It can also be an adopted reaction to compressed air passage via the normal respiratory channel at the nasal tract.
This kind of condition can be addressed dentally by using a snoring mouthpiece.
Nasal stuffiness is a temporary cause of snoring owing to the inability of air to use its normal path forcing it to use the mouth in most cases.
This is often caused by allergies and may be remedied with nasal sprays and/or nasal strips.
People who are biologically predisposed to snore do so when they are sleeping on their back.
This position makes the tongue and soft palate fall back, narrowing the airway in effect causing breathing impediment.
Popular advice to people like this is to sleep at their side or with their head elevated.
Obesity causes snoring.
Very few fat people do not snore.
This is because their lung capacity is decreased due to fat tissues squeezing the lungs.
The only snoring cure to this is to eliminate those fat tissues and that can only be done by an extensive fat-burning exercise.
Snoring Cures and More There are advancements in medical science that attempts to address snoring as a biological variable.
Surgical options include procedures like uvulopalatopharyngoplasty, or newer Radio frequency ablation (RFA).
This can involve removal of some biological tissues that is causing snoring or adjusting biological positions to allow proper flow of air through the throat.
Procedures like this can be very invasive and thus highly risky.
There are also those who opt to surgically install implants.
Whether it does work depends on the ability of the patient to maintain certain regimens and his/her biological capacity to adjust to the foreign object introduced to his/her system.
Then there are the natural remedies of exercises and acupressure devices.
Their effect lies heavily on the discipline on the person that employs it.
Technological inventions have also introduced new gadgets like CPAP machines, elaborate inhalers, Nozovent, SomnoGuard, and many others.
One claims to be more effective than the others and in some cases, they indeed are.
Snoring Cures or Snoring Adjustment There are those who will pick one and promote as the most effective answer to snoring.
However, I have realized that in the absence of concrete sign of being effective, lifestyle change and habit adjustment can do the trick for free, albeit not always effectively.
