How to Plant Butter Beans

    • 1). Fertilize your soil properly or improve it with a compost. Add pea and bean inoculants to help get the nitrogen to the soil.

    • 2). Plant butter bean seeds about 1 inch deep and about 6 to10 inches apart. Provide a support near the seedlings if you have planted the pole variety for it to climb on as it starts germinating.

    • 3). Water the butter bean seeds evenly. Make sure that the bean bed receives at least 2 inches of water or rain per week.

    • 4). Keep the soil wet enough so it doesn't feel dry. Also, be careful not to add too much moisture that may destroy the crop.

    • 5). Harvest the butter beans when the pods are round and filled with beans. The beans should appear bright-green.
