How to Troubleshoot My Compaq V2000 Laptop

    • 1). Ensure the power adapter is plugged into the power source and the back of the Compaq V2000 laptop. Consider battery replacement for your Compaq V2000 laptop if power issues persist even after ensuring the power adapter is plugged in.

    • 2). Turn over the laptop and slide the battery release mechanism over to disengage and remove the battery for replacement. Slide the new battery into the Compaq V2000 laptop until it clicks into place.

    • 3). Remove the screws on the bottom of the Compaq V2000 laptop with your Phillips head screwdriver. This will allow you to access the keyboard if it has become unresponsive.

    • 4). Turn the Compaq V2000 laptop back over and move the keyboard free of the Compaq's housing. As you pull it out you will notice the keyboard cable that moves from the keyboard's bottom to the laptop's base. It connects here via the keyboard socket. If it is no longer connected, pull the socket up gently to slide the cable back in. Push down on the socket to lock it back down.

    • 5). Open up the monitor if the Compaq V2000 laptop's backlight has seemed to fail. Around the plastic perimeter of the screen are a number of screws. Remove these with your Phillips head screwdriver. Note that there will likely be plastic caps covering these screws that you will have to pry off with your fingers first.

    • 6). Remove the bezel by jostling it free now that the screws are gone. Be careful not to damage the bezel during removal.

    • 7). Check the Compaq V2000's inverter cable. This cable is responsible for the operation of the monitor's backlight. The inverter cable is black and lies atop the inverter board at the base of the Compaq's exposed display. If it is disconnected from the inverter board it must be plugged back in. Pull up on one side of the socket on the inverter board and slide the cable back in. Push down on the socket to lock it back in place.
