- Betagen is administered to a dog using a spray bottle. The area that needs treatment should be dry, as well as clean from dirt and excess hair. Holding the spray bottle approximately three to six inches away, spray the area twice. Repeat two to four times over a week.
Betagen is only authorized for use by prescription or veterinarian. - Betagen contains the following active ingredients: Gentamicin Sulfate and Betamethasone Valerate.
- Betagen is for topical use only. The spray is useful to help skin that is irritated by bacterial infections or "superficial lesions". The spray has exhibited some anti-inflammatory properties, so it can be helpful in relieving pressure or swelling associated with dermatitis or rashes.
- Side effects can include vomiting or diarrhea, weight loss, as well as elevations in different enzymes. For dogs that have undergone steroid therapy for an extended period of time, there is a risk of developing Cushings disease. Consult with your veterinarian to determine the risk for your dog.
- Like other antibiotics, use may inhibit healthy bacteria, yeasts or fungi growth, which can cause complications or necessitate additional medications. This spray should not be used longer than one week without the direction of a veterinarian. Ingesting the Betagen spray can result in reduced natural steroid production in the dog, or can cause withdrawal symptoms. If ingested, monitor the dog for fluid and sodium retention, potassium loss, sudden weight gain, or excessive thirst.
