- 1). Use a bulb blower--preferably one with a brush--to blow away any dirt or debris that may be trapped in the crevices of your camera. Pay particular attention to the viewfinder, the seams in the camera body, and the battery and media compartments.
- 2). Wipe the entire exterior of the camera with a soft, lint-free cloth. Microfiber is a good choice. Stay away from cloths that may deposit lint (such as paper towels) or may be abrasive (such as hand towels).
- 3). Remove the lens from your SLR camera body by pressing the lens release button and twisting the lens off the body.
- 4). Apply a few drops of lens cleaner to your soft cloth. Gently wipe the front and back glass pieces on the lens. Immediately replace the lens caps on both ends of the lens to protect the lens from dust while you clean the rest of the camera.
- 5). Blow any dust or dirt from the inside of the camera with your blower brush.
- 6). Remove the sensor cleaning swabs from their packages. Some swabs come pre-moistened while others will require a few drops of sensor cleaning fluid. Make smooth, even strokes along the surface of the sensor to remove any large pieces of dust or debris.
- 7). Attach the body cap to the body, or reattach the lens to the camera body. Leaving the camera open will subject it to more dust.
