How to Make a Snowman Using Puzzle Pieces

Follow the directions I provide here and you can create a Christmas tree ornament using old puzzle pieces.
  • Age Guideline: 5 Years and Up
  • Time Required: 30 minutes
The above age and time guidelines are estimates. This project can be modified to suit other ages and may take more or less time depending on your circumstances. For best results, read through all of these steps before you start making this craft.
Let's begin...

Gathering The Supplies to Make a Puzzle Piece Snowman Ornament

Before you start any project it is easiest to gather together all of the supplies. For this project you will need:
Now we can go on to the next step...

Painting the Puzzle Pieces

Start off by painting your puzzle pieces. For my snowman, I painted 10 puzzle pieces white. You can use more or fewer puzzle pieces if you like. Let the paint dry.

Make the Base of Your Snowman

The white puzzle pieces will form the base of the snowman. Lay them out how you want them on your work surface and glue them together. Be generous with the glue. Once the glue is dry, flip your snowman over and add more glue where the pieces join together just to make it a little stronger. Once all of the glue is dry, you can give your ornament a protective coating using clear acrylic spray if you desire.

Make the Snowman's Hat

Cut a hat shape out of craft foam. You can make a top hat style like I did or any other style you like. I used black craft foam, but you can use whatever color you like.

Adding the Eyes to Your Puzzle Piece Snowman

Using craft glue, attach eyes to your snowman.

Making a Nose for Your Snowman Ornament

I cut a small piece from an orange chenille stem and glued it in place to look like a carrot nose.

Add a Mouth to Your Puzzle Piece Snowman Ornament

Make a mouth for your snowman using a few tiny pom-poms.

To personalize my snowman, I glued a few button down the front of it. You can add buttons, a bow tied from ribbon, or anything else you like.

Now you should cut a piece of ribbon about 8- to 10-inches long. Take your piece of ribbon, fold it in half, and glue the ends to the top back of your snowman's hat. This will be your loop for hanging the ornament. If you like, you can also cut a short piece of ribbon and glue it on as a hat band. Once all of the glue is dry, hang up your ornament and enjoy!
