- Make a durable, washable plaything for your pet using your old T-shirts. Gather two of your old shirts and wash them. Cut the shirts lengthwise into several, one-inch wide strands and place the strands into a pile. Weave 10 or more of the strands into a tight rope and tie off the ends so that the rope stays together. You can also tie the strands together into some other shape; a ball, a circle or whatever else comes to mind. You should have enough shirt scraps to make at least two toys.
- The second craft project involves using shirt scraps to create a rag doll. You will need two shirts for this project. If it is plain T-shirt without a design on the front, draw a simple gingerbread man shape on the front of one of the shirts. Turn one shirt inside-out, then draw the figure if there is a design on the front of the shirt. The gingerbread man shape can be whatever size you want. Cut out the design, cutting through both the front and the back of the shirt. Sew these two pieces together, leaving a three-inch gap open to fill the doll with shirt scraps and cotton filling. Turn the doll inside out, then fill. Use the other shirt to add decorations to the doll.
- You can also use T-shirt scraps to make jewelry. To make T-shirt earrings, purchase a set of earring hoops from a craft store. Use a decorate fabric stamp to punch out small flower shapes, hearts or circles from shirt scraps of various colors. Insert these shapes through the earring hoops covering at least one-half of the hoops. You can also attach these pieces onto a necklace chain. To make a T-shirt bracelet, cut five, 9-inch long, 1/4-inch wide strips from five, different colored shirts. Weave the shirts together into a rope and tie the ends of the rope together.
- There are other crafts you can make with T-shirt scraps. You can make a very simple T-shirt bag by cutting the sleeves off of an old T-shirt and sewing the bottom and open sleeve holes closed. Use the sleeves to make bag handles. You can also use T-shirt scraps to decorate a picture frame by punching out shapes and gluing them to the frame.
