- 1). Smooth the still-wet concrete level with a straight edge board. The board should be a foot longer than the patch so that the edges rest on the cured concrete while the center smooths the wet concrete. Place the board flat against the concrete floor and drag it over the patch.
- 2). Wait until the concrete loses its wet sheen. Then with a wood trowel smooth the concrete, using a fanning motion.
- 3). As the concrete mix cures, make a few final passes over the patch with a steel trowel. This will ensure that the concrete is extremely smooth.
