- 1). Set the compound miter saw up so that you are cutting the right side inside corner by moving the compound miter saw table to 31.62 degrees on the right side. There is a lock out point on most miter saws for this angle.
- 2). Tilt the compound miter saw to a 45-degree angle so the saw portion tips to the left, which creates an inside bevel cut. Place the crown molding against the fence so that the face is up and the edge is tight against the fence of the saw. Move the crown molding to the right edge, and cut the crown molding, paying special attention to where you place your hand while holding the molding to avoid injury.
- 3). Climb up your step ladder, and measure from the right side the length of the wall you are installing the crown molding on. This measurement is referred to as your "long" measurement, referring to the measurement where the molding sits on the wall from edge to edge and is always the bottom edge on inside corners.
- 4). Move the compound miter saw from the 31.62 degrees on the right side to 31.62 degrees on the left side of the saw table. Tilt the saw portion itself 45 degrees to the right side or lock the saw positions to create a left side inside bevel cut.
- 5). Transfer your measurement in step 3 to the crown molding, measuring from the point of the right side cut and marking on the bottom of the molding with a pencil. Make the cut paying particular attention to safety.
- 6). Cut a right inside bevel on the far right side of a new piece of crown molding. Cut a left inside bevel about 12 inches to the left on the same piece to serve as a template piece.
- 7). Install the piece of crown molding between the ceiling and the wall, attaching the molding with a brad nail gun in the middle of the molding. Leave the ends loose.
- 8). Take the template piece from Step 7, and align the right and left sides so that all the contours of the crown molding match. Nail the ends you left loose in place. Repeat this process for all inside corner crown molding.
- 1). Set the compound miter saw to 31.62 degrees on the left side of the saw table for a right outside corner. Bevel the saw portion 45 degrees to the right. Put the crown molding against the fence and all the way to the right side of the molding. Make your cut, paying particular attention to where you place your hands.
- 2). Position the compound miter saw to 31.62 degrees on the right side of the of the saw table for a left outside corner. Bevel the saw portion 45 degrees to the left. Put the crown molding against the fence and all the way to the left side of the crown molding. Make your cut, paying particular attention to where you place your hands.
- 3). Measure the wall you are installing the crown molding on. Most likely, you are going from an inside corner to an outside corner. Remember that the bottom of an outside corner is the short measurement. "Short" refers to the bottom of the crown molding on an outside corner. The bottom is always the short measurement on outside corners, so measure from long to short.
- 4). Cut the molding for an inside corner with the steps in section 1. Measure from this cut along the bottom of the crown molding and make a mark. Cut the outside corner measurement on the crown molding using the outside corner instructions above.
- 5). Trim a right outside corner on the far right side of the piece of new crown molding. Cut a left outside corner bevel about 12 inches from the cut you just made, which will serve as your template piece.
- 6). Put the crown molding in between the wall and the ceiling. Shove the inside corner into the other inside corner piece. Attach the crown molding in the middle of the piece with a brad nail gun. Adjust the inside ends by twisting them until they line up, and nail them. Line up you outside corner with your template pieces. Use wood glue when pushing the outside corner pieces together.
- 7). Use wood filler to fill the nail head holes. Use your finger to apply the filler.
