A well-organized, well-stocked kitchen pantry can make cooking, and finding different ingredients much easier. You don't need to have a large walk-in closet to have an efficient and organized pantry; in fact, even pantries of the room-sized variety can become cluttered to a problematic degree without the proper planning and implementation. Employ practical ideas to keep your pantry from becoming a disorganized disaster. - Use the vertical space in your pantry closet by hanging shelving both on empty wall space and on the back of your closet door or doors. A spice rack has a low profile, which makes it a good candidate for this purpose. Attach a metal sheet to part of the wall or door to make a magnetized spice rack.
- Keep bagged and small items, such as raisin boxes or small bags of chips, tidy by placing them in small baskets on your pantry shelves. These baskets can be pulled off the shelf and placed on the counter when you need items from them. Use larger baskets in a similar style to store larger items.
- Buy clear, airtight storage containers to use for your dry goods such as baking soda, flour and pasta. Not only do matching containers help keep everything looking neat and organized, they also keep bugs out of your food. Label each of the containers so that you don't accidentally use the wrong ingredient in a recipe.
- Use shallow shelves that don't run too far back in your closet pantry to make sure everything is easy to find and reach. If you don't want to sacrifice the space, use sliding pullout shelves, so that everything at the back can be easily accessible.
