Tiwanaku, Bolivia: Plan Notice

Standing on the alitplano plain between La Paz and Lake Titicaca, the notice board posts a plan of the Tiwanaku complex.

This site is long thought to be the oldest community in South America. The massively constructed complex, thought to be a religious ceremonial center, was supported by an agrarian culture on the shores of Lake Titicaca.
As the waters of the lake receded, the residents were forced to leave and the community suffered neglect and the ravages of time, earthquakes and nature.

The complex is not yet comepletely excavated, but the restored portions offer the visitor a glimpse of what life was like long, long ago.
