- 1). Handpick a light infestation of rose slugs. Drop the insects in warm water mixed with two or three squirts of dish detergent to drown the insects or simply stomp them to kill them.
- 2). Wash the rose bush's foliage with a forceful stream of water. Focus on both the underside of the leaves and the topside to effectively dislodge the rose slugs.
- 3). Apply insecticidal soap when spraying the plant with water if the infestation is severe. Consider also using horticultural oils to control the rose slugs. Apply the horticultural oil according to the directions on the label.
- 4). Spray the top and bottom of the rose bush's foliage with an insecticide that contains spinosad, cyfluthrin, carbaryl, esfenvalerate, acephate, bifenthrin, lambda cyhalothrin or permethrin. Follow the directions on the insecticide's label for application instructions.
- 5). Sprinkle a soil drench or granules that contain dinotefuran or imidacloprid around the base of the rose bush to systemically kill the rose slug larvae. Follow the directions on the label for application instructions.
