The seaside town of Dartmouth, Devon, sits aside the River Dart and the English Channel in southwest England. Visitors can choose from quaint bed and breakfasts to historic hotels with harbor views. This ancient seaport is home to the Royal Naval College and Dartmouth Castle, which defended the town from the Middle Ages through World War II. Thatch-roofed cottages and Tudor-style architecture enhance the town's English charm. - A Dartmouth landmark since 1639, the Royal Castle Hotel has hosted legends such as Queen Victoria, Charles II, Edward VII and Sir Francis Drake. Many of the hotel's 25 units overlook the harbor and are furnished with antiques, four-poster beds and spa baths with jacuzzis. Amenities include a complimentary English breakfast at NU, the hotel restaurant which also serves lunch and dinner. The Galleon and Harbour bars serve lighter pub fare all day. The hotel has been recognized for its environmentally friendly practices.
