How to Insulate a Sewer Connection Line

    • 1). Measure the outer dimensions of your sewer connection line. Wrap a tape measure around the pipe to get the diameter. Extend the tape measure along the length of the pipe to determine length. Use these measurements to purchase the correct amount of insulation. Buy a few feet of extra insulation to cover any mistake or wrong measurements. It is better to have too much insulation than not enough. Leaving gaps in the insulation will make it less effective and defeat the purpose of insulating the pipe.

    • 2). Locate the split along the length of the pipe insulation. Open this split with your hands. Wrap the insulation around the length of the pipe. The insulation is in the shape of a tube that will fit around the pipe. Trim off extra insulation with a utility knife.

    • 3). Apply pipe insulation tape to the split in the pipe insulation. Strip the protective coating off the back of the tape. Lay the tape along the length of the split in the insulation. Apply tape around the width of the insulation every few feet for extra support.
