How to Keep Chlorine Levels Steady in a Pool

    • 1). Remove the pool skimmer basket and dump out any debris contained inside. Place the basket inside the skimmer. Place 3-inch-sized chlorine tablets inside the swimming pool's skimmer basket. Tablets placed in the skimmer deliver a steady level of chlorine sanitizer into the pool water moving through the skimmer.

    • 2). Place chlorine tablets into any chlorine feeders or floating chlorinators attached to the pool system. Adjust the flow rate into the chlorinator or feeder using the valve handle attached to the device to match the desired level of chlorine as indicated by the labeling on the handle.

    • 3). Fill a container with water from a garden or water hose. Broadcast 1 lb. of a chlorine-based granular shock into the container for every 10,000 gallons of water in the swimming pool.

    • 4). Stir the mix inside the container with a stick or spoon. Pour the entire contents of the container into the pool water. Apply shock in this manner once every two weeks to keep the pool sanitized and the chlorine levels steady.
