How to Hook Up Speakers to a Television

    Connecting the Speakers

    • 1). Connect the 1/8-inch plug on the end of the right speaker cable to the 1/8-inch mini jack on the Y-adapter. This plug delivers the stereo signal from the TV to the right and left external speakers.

    • 2). Insert the 1/4-inch white and red plugs on one end of the standard stereo cable into the jacks labeled L and R on the Y-adapter. White connects to the left audio channel, red to the right.

    • 3). Plug in the other end of the stereo cable to the white (left) and red (right) audio out jacks on the rear panel of the TV.

    • 4). Hook up the 1/8-inch plug on the end of the left speaker cable to the small output jack on the back of the right speaker.

    • 5). Push the DC power plug, which comes with the speakers, into the round power socket on the back of the right speaker. Plug the other end into a wall outlet.

    • 6). Turn on the TV and press the "Power" button on the speakers or turn the on/off/volume knob clockwise. External speaker volume can be adjusted both with the volume control knob or with the TV remote control.
