  Long Lake, New York, is situated in Adirondack Park along Long Lake. Home to just under 1,000 people, the nature here is unspoiled and world renowned. Although somewhat isolated given its remote location in the mountains, Long Lake is a summer tourist destination with activities ranging from hiking and climbing to fishing, boating and float planing.
  
  

Water Sport

• With 14 miles of pristine waterfront, summer visitors to Long Lake have a lot of reasons to get in the water. Families can rent a boat from the nearby marinas, or bring their own from home and set sail on Long Lake. Several companies also offer ferry rides between Long Lake and Raquette Lake, complete with a historical tour of the Adirondacks, and dinner cruises for adults. Kayak at the mouth of Buttermilk Falls, camp on the beach or swim in the bay.
  
  

Hiking

• The mountains in this region of the Adirondacks are tipped with history and hidden gems. Most routes are family friendly, with rest stops, camps and restaurants along the way. Hiking is a no-nonsense way to encounter this lush area. For something more serious, take on Owlshead Mountain, and picnic at the top. If you have a few days, try the Roosevelt-Mercy Trail to walk 40 miles in Teddy Roosevelt's footsteps.
  
  

Geocaching

• For would-be explorers, Geocaching allows visitors to take in the pristine surroundings and explore nature. Think of it as a high-tech scavenger hunt with a GPS. Each team navigates to a geocache (a small hidden container) that holds the next question or puzzle to help the team reach the next point. Players can also share their experiences online and gain tips and tricks from those who have gone before. In Long Lake, a coin-cache is hosted year round which involves much of the town and businesses around the region.
  
  

Seaplane Tours

• For a different view of the Adirondacks, take a ride in a seaplane. The view of the dense forests and lakeside landscapes is best seen by way of a seaplane that takes tourists high above Long Lake, Raquette Lake, Buttermilk Falls and nearby Blue Mountain. The most memorable part is the water landing and lazy float along the water's surface.
