If you're looking for good skiing and a comfortable chalet, La Tania in the French Alps might be for you.
Now, it's a fact of skiing life that people go skiing for different reasons.
Some go to pit their skills and athleticism against the slopes and snow.
Others may enjoy that, but perhaps appreciate just as much (if not more!) the après-ski and social side.
Yet others place a high emphasis on culture and having access to other leisure activities apart from simply hitting the slopes each day.
So, how does la Tania score on some of these scales? The skiing itself Given that it is connected to the Three Valleys ski area of Meribel, Courchevel and Val Thorens, the skiing is generally regarded, as you might expect, as being excellent.
150km of pistes stretching up to nearly 2750m mean a wide range of slopes, challenges and opportunities.
Of course, nothing can ever be entirely guaranteed, but the snow record is good and the availability of snow cannons should ensure that skiing is good even if the snowfall itself has been less than hoped for.
The social side From your chalet, La Tania offers a good range of après-ski options.
Some of the restaurants have south-facing eating areas, which means you should be able to take advantage of the lunchtime sun.
Some of the bars are foreign (i.
e.
non-French) owned and that makes an interesting cultural mix in the evenings.
There's a very substantial choice of restaurants and bars to suit all interests and tastes.
The resort, though perhaps not quite as status-conscious as some in the Three Valleys, is nevertheless restrained and the nightlife is probably best thought of as healthily vibrant rather than riotous! Other attractions in the area You won't be bored if you decide to have a change from the slopes - that's for sure! For example, some local aero clubs offer flights in a light aircraft around the mountains - breathtaking even if you've done it before.
You can also hire some snowshoes and go trekking on some of the numerous local footpaths.
If you've never tried it before, don't pass the opportunity by.
You can also arrange to have a mobile massage that just might help some of those aching muscles and better prepare you for the next bout on the piste.
The nearby town of Moutiers is also worth exploring with its narrow streets and lovely cathedral (Saint Pierre).
Making the most In spite of the outdoor nature of skiing holidays, it's nice to have a comfortable base to come home to in the evenings.
For choice of chalet, La Tania offers a very wide selection, many of traditional construction and decorated in local styles.
You can be sure of finding one that will meet your budget and provide you with the home comforts necessary to enjoy your stay.
