- 1). Arrange your medals in descending order of importance in rows. You can wear the top three ribbons that you own, 20 ribbons on a bar, or all ribbons that you've earned in your military career, depending on which arrangement works best for your accomplishments.
- 2). Attach your ribbons to a ribbon bar. You will need to have earned at least 20 ribbons to completely fill a ribbon bar, though. Ribbons may be sewn onto a uniform coat directly, but attaching them onto a ribbon bar is simple. Also, the bar can be easily transferred between uniform jackets.
- 3). Attach your ribbon bar to your uniform coat. Either a uniform coat or a dress blue coat is acceptable for your medal display. The ribbon bars should be placed in rows on the left hand side of the jacket over the heart on the chest. If you are wearing a BDU-style uniform jacket, the ribbon bar should be placed above the pocket. The bottom of the medals should touch the top of the pocket.
