- 1). Ensure your helmet is the correct size and is comfortable. Adjust the chin strap on the helmet, taking up any slack. A correct helmet should fit square on the head and the front of the helmet should be low enough to protect the forehead and brow. The padding should be firm and not tight, loose or pressured.
- 2). Explore the different types of face shields available if your helmet does not already have one. Decide whether you require a wire cage, which will not fog from breathing; a plastic shield, which provides unobstructed vision; or a combination of the two designs.
- 3). Look for retailers in your area where you can assess the quality and fit of the face shield.
- 4). Assess the visibility your face shield provides and its comfort, before purchasing. Ensure you can breathe comfortably while wearing your helmet with the face shield on.
- 5). Test your face shield before playing hockey.
