- 1). Verify that the battery is charged. A depleted battery may cause your laptop to turn off. Press the "Fn" and "F3" keys on your keyboard simultaneously to display the laptop's current battery level. If battery levels are low, insert the Inspiron E1505's power cord into its cable port on the left-hand side of the computer. Then, plug the AC adapter into a wall outlet.
- 2). Check the Inspiron E1505's battery health. Over time, the laptop's battery may decrease in health and may not be able to hold its charge well. This may cause slow responsiveness and unexpected shutdowns. Shut the Inspiron E1505 and turn it over so that you can access the bottom of the laptop. Locate the battery, found toward the front edge of the computer. Press and hold the small button on the battery. After three seconds, note how many of the five indicator lights on the battery are illuminated. No blinking lights means the battery is in good health. Five lights means the battery is in poor health and should be replaced as soon as possible.
- 3). Adjust the brightness of the screen. This may resolve visibility issues. Hold down the "Fn" key on the keyboard. Then, press the up arrow to brighten the screen or the down arrow to darken the screen. Adjust until you achieve the best visibility for where you are seated.
- 4). Launch the Inspiron's internal troubleshooter utility. This may resolve problems in connecting to peripheral devices such as your mouse, printer or scanner. Click the "Start" menu button in the lower left-hand corner of the screen. Select "Help and Support". A dialog window will appear. Enter "hardware troubleshooter" in the search box and press the arrow icon on the right of the box. Double-click "Hardware Troubleshooter" in the next window. Then, follow the on-screen prompts. The utility will scan the laptop and attempt to resolve any identified hardware and software problems.
- 5). Ensure that your essential Windows software and drivers are updated. Microsoft Windows receives regular updates and bug fixes from Microsoft that fix commonly experienced software errors. In addition, many of the E1505's hardware components may need driver updates. Click the "Start" menu and select "Windows Update" to scan for any necessary patches and updates that may improve performance and resolve your problems.
