- Whether it is an airtram, a downtown hayride or a simple mass transit trolley ride, kids are captivated by fun forms of transportation.
Gatlinburg's Ober Aerial Tramway claims to be one of the largest in the country. This ride is sure to be fun for all soaring above the tree tops in one of the 120-passenger trams. The trams leave from downtown Gatlinburg and can be taken just for fun or as practical transportation to a ski resort or amusement park owned by the same company that operates the trams.
If you or your little ones prefer to keep your feet closer to the ground, try a trolley ride. The trolley transit system main station is located downtown near Ripley's Aquarium Plaza.
For a special treat in the fall months, head downtown for a hayride. The old-fashioned hayrides depart from Mountain Mall from September through January, and proceeds go to the United Way. - For a little bit of prehistoric fun hit up Dinosaur Walk Museum or the Jurassic Jungle Boat Ride.
Dinosaur Walk Museum is filled with life-size model dinosaurs with plenty of educational information along the way. The museum also features a movie theater and a dino dig for the little ones.
The Jurassic Jungle Boat Ride is less educational, but a bit more exciting. This winding canal takes you trough dinosaur country where anamatronic dinosaurs and other prehistoric creatures, both friendly and not-so-friendly, greet you along the way. - Fannie Farkles in downtown Gatlinburg is the place to beat hunger for the young and young at heart. This hot dog stand and arcade have become a Gatlinburg landmark and should not be missed by any family.
Come hungry because the hot dogs here go beyond just jumbo-sized. The specialties here are the ogle dog, a 12-foot corn dog, and the sausage sub covered in peppers and onions.
Also be sure to come with cash on hand. Once your family members have filled their bellies they are sure to want to indulge in the arcade and maybe try to win a prize.
