Paris to Italy Sleeper Trains

      To make the 700-mile journey between two of Europe's famous capitals, you could make the trip to the Charles de Gaulle airport, wait through check-in and security, be cramped onto a plane and then travel from Fiumicino airport outside of Rome into the heart of Rome. For a chance to view the countryside and get some rest, book a berth in an overnight train and fall asleep somewhere in the countryside of France to wake up in the Eternal City.

    Trip with No Transfers

    • If you want to sleep as long as possible or don't want to switch trains in the middle of the night, the EuroNight train that leaves the Paris-Bercy station at in the evening is a good choice. The train travels for a little more than 15 hours to arrive at Rome's Termini Station mid-morning the next day. This trip runs daily, and reservations are required.

    One Transfer

    • You may also book a trip that transfers to a Eurostar train in Bolgna in the early hours of the morning. You will have about 12 minutes to make the switch and arrive at Termini. This may be a good option if you want to squeeze an extra hour and a half out of Rome. This trip does not run on Saturdays, and reservations are required.

    Two Transfers

    • Although it might be more work, more transfers sometimes mean a lower price. Leaving from the Paris Lyon station mid-evening, you arrive at Dijon Ville at in about two hours. You then have 30 minutes to transfer to a Euronight train that arrives at Bologna in the very early morning. This journey is not available on Saturdays, and reservations are required. This trip is usually the shortest, at 13 hours 17 minutes of travel time.

    For Early Birds

    • This journey takes 14 and a half hours and gets you in to Rome in the early morning - perfect if you have a morning meeting or want to be first in line at the museums. Leaving from Paris Lyon station on the TGV in the early afternoon, you transfer to a Regionale train in Torino a few hours later. The Regionale makes a short hop over to another Torino station, where you board the Intercity Night Train and arrive in Termini with the sunrise. This itinerary is not available on Sundays, and reservations are required.
