Paint three of the walls one or two shades different than the sofa. In a large room you can get by with painting the walls slightly darker; in smaller spaces it's best to paint them lighter. Designate the wall behind the sofa as your accent wall. Paint it in a contrasting color that matches the rest of the decor. Accent the room in yellows and blues, or go in another direction on the color wheel by decorating with mauve hues. - 2). Utilize retro lighting to accentuate your celery-color sofa. Flank the sofa with acrylic-base lamps that have shades painted with bright flowers and stems in a matching celery color. Another option for the lamp shades is to use feathers or beads. Hang a small grouping of two or three white plastic flower pendant chandeliers from one corner of the room.
- 3). Purchase an area rug that is woven with snippets of the same celery color without overpowering it. A rug that is predominantly mauve, or yellow and blue with green accents, is a choice that complements the sofa without overusing the celery color.
- 4). Leather- or vinyl-covered club chairs or recliners pair well with a celery-color sofa. Incorporate a white settee or rocker into the furniture choices as well. If you prefer traditional fabric upholstery, use fabrics that, like the rug, carry accents of the celery color.
- 5). Cooler climates necessitate the use of lined curtains. Raw-silk-lined curtains add a classy touch to a room, or consider using stark white drapes with small embroidered flowers in keeping with the retro decor. You can get away with sheer window treatments if you live in warmer locations.

Hang paintings that suit your personal taste on the walls without worrying too much over "matching" the sofa colors exactly. You can take the art in one of two directions: Choose abstracts with large, bold patterns and colors in keeping with many of the retro pieces in the room. Choose landscapes created in oil or watercolors if you prefer more traditional paintings. - 7). Finish the room with carefully chosen accent pieces. Place yellow and blue throw pillows on both ends of the sofa. Use these pillows in the chairs as well. Keep a centerpiece of fresh flowers on the coffee table. Alternate between large gerbera daisies, spring bouquets and white lilies. Set caramel-color pillar candles on a mantel or on the end tables. Use pewter frames to display your favorite photos.
