Wall-Mounted Gas Fireplace Design Ideas

    • Wall-mounted fireplaces offer a whole new range of decorating options.fireplace image by Horticulture from Fotolia.com

Wall-mounted fireplaces provide an aesthetically pleasing visual, that is different from regular fireplaces. It is possible to get the visual warmth and appeal of firelight, without the smell, mess and smoke. For those who live in smaller spaces, wall-mounted fireplaces are a nice alternative to traditional fireplaces, and are as safe as lighting a candle. There is much more latitude for creativity when decorating with wall-mounted fireplaces because you are not limited by one location with a mantel and hearth, like a standard fireplace.

    Mounting

    • Move around in the room where you want the wall-mounted fireplace and think about not only which wall to mount it on, but also at what level. Eye level (focal point) is ideal for families with pets or small children, as it's safer. At this level it can give the impression of framed flames. Ground level also works nicely and imitates a more traditional fireplace feel.

    Style

    • Choose a wall-mounted fireplace style that complements and enhances the feel of your room. There are many different models available with traditional, modern and rustic designs. Exteriors come in copper, stainless steel, black stainless steel, wood finishes and many more.

    Shape and Size

    • Evaluate the shape of your existing room and where you will mount the fireplace before selecting one. The fireplace should serve as a focal or gathering point without getting lost in the room, or overwhelming it. Cut out paper or cardboard templates in the size and shape of the fireplace you are considering and have someone hold them up or tape them to the wall for easier visualization.

    Furniture Arrangement

    • Play with the existing furniture in the room to ensure that they will benefit from the addition of the wall-mounted fireplace. Use the paper or cardboard template that is held or taped to the wall for better visualization, and place furniture around it. When you feel comfortable that it will fit in well with your furniture, make the selection.

    Accessories

    • Play with different accessories once the fireplace is mounted and the furniture arranged. Accessories such as wall hangings, end tables, flower arrangements, candles and frames can all be used to draw attention to the fireplace or complement it.
