Termite control is a tricky subject.
The first time you call up some pest control company and ask for a quote for taking care of the termites in your garden, you may end up getting a feeling that the quote is too high.
Most people decide that a better alternative is to look for a do it yourself video and handle the problem themselves.
Unfortunately there are only 2 effective termite control method and both of them are not so easy to implement the first time.
The first method called the barrier treatment method is a preventive method.
This method relies on applying some termite repellant chemical all around your premises so that termites will not enter.
However this application of chemical requires specialized equipments which may not be available with you.
More over since we are dealing with toxic chemicals here, it may be a good idea to leave it to experts.
For obvious reasons, if your house has been already infested with termites then the barrier system is of no use.
In such a case you need to use the second method called baiting method of termite control.
In this method, the termite food items are contaminated with chemicals that control the growth of new born termites.
This contaminated food is then carried to the nest by worker termites and is shared with the soldier termites and queen termite.
Once the food goes into the system it starts affecting their ability to reproduce.
Once the existing termites die a natural death, there is no one to take their place.
Most of these chemicals are not available over the counter and hence you will find it difficult to employ this method effectively.
Please note that popular pest control chemicals rely on direct poisoning.
Since only the worker termites come to the open, direct poisoning will only kill the workers and the queen and soldiers will survive.
But the growth control method solves the problem by killing the entire second generation.
