So what do bedbugs eat you ask? People! Mosquitos fly and Bedbugs don't, but they drink your blood just about the same way. Only with mosquitos you can go inside and shut them out. Bed bugs...not so much. Your sleeping and they're drinking. It's quite a difference,. Since bedbugs are nocturnal and you aren't they feed on you while you're sleeping and that's a very big problem. Imagine waking up and finding hundreds of little bugs on you sucking your blood and leaving a nasty rash (or worse). Sounds absolutely horrible doesn't it. It is!
Getting Rid Of Bed Bugs. How To Start Right Now!
- Once you've positively identified that you have a bed bug infestation jump on the web and begin searching for a dependable exterminator. Sites/Services similar to AngiesList would be a more reliable method of choosing a good exterminator. If you don't want to hire an exterminator due to the cost (which can easily reach into the thousands) or there's a wait time then here are a few ways you can get rid of those bed bugs today!
- Rubbing Alcohol in a spray bottle will kill any bed bug on the spot. This method works well when you can actually see the bed bugs. Keep in mind that bed bugs nest in small dark places so can't just rely on rubbing alcohol.
- Heat kills. In the case of a bed bug heat can kill only if the temperature exceeds 120 degrees Farenheight. To get rid of bed bugs in your sheets and clothes wash them in water exceeding 120 degrees.
- Vacuum carpets and then empty the vacuum while outside, into a bag.
- Steam clean carpets. The intense heat from steam can easily kill adult bedbugs and their eggs. If you don't own a carpet steam cleaner you can rent one from Lowes or Homedepot.
- This last one may sound weird, but it's probably the best way to kill bed bugs no matter where they hide and it's called...kitty litter...yes, kitty litter. One of the main components of kitty litter is Crystal Silica Gel (no it's not the poisonous stuff you shouldn't eat). Here's how it works. Get some dye and scent free kitty litter, crush it up into a fine powder (as close as you can get to flour) and apply the powder to anywhere you think bed bugs may be lurking. The Crystal Silica binds to the bed bug and dehydrates them. In 24 to 48 hours the bed bugs will be dead!
Just remember that getting rid of bed bugs can take days or even weeks, however if you follow my suggestions listed above you will be successfull. One final word of advice - don't apply insectisides yourself. Some of these can be quite toxic. Leave the chemical stuff up to the exterminator.
