- 1). Verify that you have a valid passport. As North American tourists don't need visas to travel to Jamaica, you will need to take with you only your passport and proof of a return ticket. If you have no open pages (room for stamps), you will need to get extra pages added to your passport. You must also show upon entry that you have proof of enough funds to be able to support yourself and your dependents during the length of your stay.
- 2). Apply for a work visa. Work visas are not needed for U.S. citizens engaging in work-related activity in Jamaica for durations under 30 days. For more than 30 days, you must apply for a work visa. For information on the requirements for a Jamaican work permit and how to qualify for one, visit the website of the Jamaican Ministry of Labor and Social Security found in the resources listed below.
- 3). Apply for a student visa. Students wishing to study in Jamaica must provide upon entry a valid passport, proof of acceptance into a Jamaican school, proof of adequate funds to cover the duration of stay, identification of the individual (or institution) responsible for the student while in Jamaica and proof of a return ticket.
- 4). Many countries are exempt from applying for a tourist visa to Jamaica; for a full list of which nationalities need and need not apply for visas to Jamaica, visit the link "Visa Fees" in the resources listed below. If you are a citizen of the British Commonwealth, you do not need a visa for any duration or reason of stay.
