- There are six types of visas for entry into Indonesia: diplomatic, service/official, transit, transit/visa-on-arrival, tourist, business, social visit and limited stay visa.
- In most cases, visas must be issued by the Consular at an Embassy of The Republic of Indonesia, and used within 90 days of issue. The exception is the visa-on-arrival (VoA), issued at a VoA facility at one of Indonesia's points of entry.
- For most visa types, a completed visa application form, two 4-by-6 cm color passport photographs, an original passport that is valid for at least six months from the date of submission and visa fee are required. Additional travel documentation that is specific to your visa may also be required.
- Additional documentation explains your purpose for being in the country, length of stay and how you will support yourself. The documents are different for each type of visa. Examples of what may be required are proof of a ticket to the next out-of-country destination, itinerary, proof of in-country accommodations, letters of recommendation, marriage or birth certificates, or proof of support.
- Key phrase to learn before you go: "Terima kasih," which is "Thank you" in Indonesian (see Resources).
