Although golf is only a year-round sport in southern US climates, that doesn't mean players living in northern climates are void of winter practice time. Golf dome driving ranges provide a way for golfers to continue their game, even when the weather doesn't permit. From a technology aspect, many of these domes offer more than just driving range and chipping and putting work. Several offer golf simulators that mimic swing movement and club speed so golfers can play a round without having to set foot on an actual course.

    Hank Haney Performance Center

    • The Hank Haney Performance Center is a 6,350 square-foot facility located in Hilton Head, SC. In addition to six putting greens and hitting stations, the center features three video hitting stations and a high-definition golf simulator. The simulator includes a 14-foot screen and allows golfers to play 15 golf courses from around the world and participate in other virtual reality golf challenges. The Hank Haney Performance Center is intended for junior golfers.

    White Pines Golf Dome

    • In addition to a 300-foot wide by 300-foot long by 100-foot tall golf dome, the White Pines Golf Dome in Bensenville, Ill., features a golf simulator. The simulator is a form of technology that allows golfers to use real clubs and take real swings at a virtual reality course. Sensors within the system measure force and straightness to determine the shots. One-hour rates for the golf simulator are $28 per hour weekdays before 6 p.m. (or $7 per person for a foursome) and $32 per hour on weekends and weekdays after 6 p.m. (or $8 per person for a foursome).

    Metro Golf Dome

    • The Metro Golf Dome in Toronto, Ontario, is a 53,000 square-foot indoor golf dome that features two full-swing golf simulators among its amenities. The simulators feature more than 40 of the world's most prestigious courses, and allow golfers to set foot on a virtual reality course in off-season months. Prices range from $30 per hour during non-prime-time hours to $40 per hour during busy times.
