Troubleshooting the HP 970CSE Printer

    Clearing Paper Jams

    • 1). Remove all the paper from the printer’s input tray, including stuck paper. Press the “Resume” button to see if you cleared the jam.

    • 2). Turn the knob in the back of the printer from the locked icon to the unlocked icon and remove the door. Pull out any stuck pieces of paper, making sure to turn the rollers to check for small pieces of paper.

    • 3). Open the printer’s front cover and pull out any stuck paper. Pull the paper out slowly, if it will move.

    • 4). Unplug the printer’s power cord. Move the cartridge carriage all the way from the left side to the right side of the printer, removing any paper that blocks the carriage’s movement.

    • 5). Rotate the rollers in the front of the printer up three times, if any paper stuck in the front of the printer will not come free. If you cannot remove the paper, take the printer to a repair shop.

    • 6). Close the printer’s front cover. Replace the back door and turn the knob to the locked icon.

    Cartridge Error Message

    • 1). Turn on the printer and open the top cover. Wait for the cartridge carriage to stop moving, and then pull the print cartridges up and out of their slots.

    • 2). Examine the copper strip on the back of the print cartridges for any damage. If you find damage on one of the strips, replace the cartridge.

    • 3). Check the labels on the print cartridges. You should have an HP 45 black ink cartridge and an HP 78 color ink cartridge. Remove the power cord from the back of the printer.

    • 4). Clean the print cartridges with a dry microfiber cloth. Do not clean the bottom of the cartridges, and make only one thorough pass on each copper strip.

    • 5). Plug the power cord back into the printer, which will reset the printer itself. Put the print cartridges back in their slots, making sure they click into place, and close the printer's cover.
