Snowboarding Resorts in France

      The Western European nation of France is home to the Alps mountain range in the eastern part of the country, and the Pyrenees to the south. Both of these ranges offers vacationers opportunities for snowboarding and alpine skiing. Most of the resorts that feature slopes for these winter activities also offer dining and shopping establishments. Lodging is usually located on resort property or within close proximity to the resorts.

    Luz Ardiden

    • Luz Ardiden is nestled in the heart of the French Pyrenees in the southern part of the country, approximately 45 minutes from the town of St. Sauveur. This ski resort features 26 trails for snowboarding and alpine skiing, as well as 15 lifts. The resort also has a park that snowboarders can use for halfpipe, spine and rail tricks. Indoor recreational facilities that are available during the winter include a climbing wall and pool. Trails for cross-country skiing and snowshoeing are also available. The ski season at this resort runs from December to April. Two on-site restaurants on the resort serve breakfast and lunch daily during the season. Hotel and cabin accommodations can be found in the nearby town of St. Sauveur.

    Le Grand-Bornand

    • Le Grand-Bornand is in the eastern French Alps, approximately an hour from Geneva, Switzerland. This resort features 43 trails for snowboarding and alpine skiing. Trails for sledding and snowshoeing are available as well. The resort offers 31 lifts to carry skiers and snowboarders. Other facilities at this resort includes an outdoor skating rink and indoor pool. The ski season at Le Grand-Bornand typically lasts from December to April. Snowboarding and skiing lessons are available to children and adults. The village of Le Grand-Bornand, situated at the bottom of the mountain, features boutique shops, dining establishments and hotel accommodations.

    La Chappelle d'Abondance

    • Located in the French Alps, La Chappelle d'Abondonce offers snowboarders and skiers 16 trails and 19 lifts. The season at this resort usually lasts from December to April. There are trails for snowshoeing, and snowboarding and skiing rentals are available. The resort also has a ski and snowboard school to train children and adults. During the summer, La Chappelle d'Abondonce has trails for hiking and cycling, as well as chances for fishing on the resort's on-site lake. Restaurants, souvenir shops and lodging are available at the village of La Chappelle d'Abondance, which is less than five minutes from the ski resort.
