Cockatiel Facts

Cockatiels are fascinating little birds and the more you learn about them the more you start to understand just how smart and unique these birds are.
In this article I want to share some of the fact about cockatiels that for you, as a cockatiel owner, will be interesting and fascinating - like the fact that 1/10th of cockatiel's weight are feathers.
For those that think that cockatiels are extremely hard to take care of, I have another fact: your cockatiel can eat almost anything except dried food, avocados and chocolate.
These foods have a lot of toxic elements that are harmful for cockatiels.
But are you ready for the most fascinating cockatiel fact? Ok, here it is...
Your cockatiel actually dreams while it sleeps.
While this might not be too fascinating for you, the thing what it dreams will knock you off your shoes.
After different experiments conducted at the Chicago University, scientists have discovered that your cockatiel when sleeping dreams about different songs it sings.
And the fact is that when it wakes up it performs the same song better than before going to sleep.
But cockatiels not only dream well, they are also extremely good parents.
The fact is that male cockatiels will not leave their babies after they've hatched out of the eggs.
And if the danger is near they will fight even larger birds just to protect their newborns.
If something bad happens to their mother, male cockatiel will step-up and raise chicks on his own.
But though these birds are amazing pet birds, the fact that they've been domesticated just recently has its own drawbacks.
The fact is that cockatiels, as many other birds as well, still have their "disease hiding" behavior installed inside their little brains.
In wild they hide their disease so that they won't become a target for some predator.
But in their current habitat this behavior is pretty useless and even dangerous for their own health.
