According to The American College of Rheumatology in 2004, one in every fifty Americans, suffers with fibromyalgia. That's an estimated 5 million of our family members, neighbors, and friends!
Eighty to ninety percent of fibromyalgia sufferers are women and there seems to be a genetic component, since women who have fibromyalgia often have a family member who has been diagnosed with the disease.
Symptoms of this painful, arthritis-related disease are often difficult to diagnose and treat due to the wide variety of seemingly unrelated symptoms, which include severe muscle pain that grows worse day-by-day, and may even change location!
Fibromyalgia trigger point sufferers may live in constant pain and agony for months or even years before realizing that any treatment, much less a natural treatment, is available. While advancements have been made in understanding the disease, many doctors may still feel reluctant to offer medical treatment or even advice, due to the lack of information on fibromyalgia's root cause.
Many medical professionals think that fibromyalgia is totally genetic or that hormonal imbalances are responsible for the syndrome. Others believe that a neurochemical deficit or overabundance is the culprit. In any case, the condition is now taken very seriously.
Thought to be brought on by an accident, tramatic event, or by a severe illness like a virus, fibromyalgia sufferers exhibit a wide variety of symptoms. Along with the intense pain which is often centered in trigger points located above the waist in the neck, shoulders, upper back and chest, and below the waist in the feet, legs, hips and buttocks, the sufferer also has to deal with a variety of pain symptoms. They often describe the widespread pain as radiating, shooting, needles and pins, deep aching, and tender-to-the-touch.
Fibromyalgia flare-ups may result from physical or emotional trauma, or even eating a particular food. Fibromyalgia trigger points on the body may be so painful during these flares, that a simple pat on the arm or back can feel like being hit by a fist or receiving a powerful electric shock.
The first time a person experiences a flare can be life changing. These fibromyalgia trigger points on the body along with reports of muscle fatigue and stiffness, are the most commonly diagnosed symptoms of the syndrome and are the reason for most sufferers seeking medical help.
So What Can I Do To Relieve My Fibromyalgia Trigger Point Pain?
It's hard to control what life throws at us, so for fibromialgia sufferers, "flares happen." However, there are some foods that can be avoided which may help to reduce the occurance of flares.
Research by specialists at WebMD has indicated that the following list of "food items" should be avoided, if you have fibromyalgia: Monosodium Glutimate (MSG) preservative and flavor enhancer, Nitrate preservatives, Aspartame sweetener, simple carbohydrates including sugar found in cakes and white bread, gluten products and yeast (also responsible for fatigue and gastrointestinal problems), dairy products especially milk, tomatoes, eggplant, and peppers.
Coffee, tea, colas and other caffeinated beverages which are frequently used by fibromyalgia sufferers to beat fatigue and feel more awake --- can actually cause the user to feel worse. A person with fibromyalgia should also avoid eating foods to which they are allergic.
For a fibromyalgia sufferer, keeping a journal of foods and activities that cause trigger point flares can help to avoid them in the future. A good rule of thumb is to take a heart-health, natural treatment diet approach, which includes low fat, fruits and vegetables, whole grain, and lean protein. Because healing begins by the body taking in protein at the cellular level in the form of amino acids, an easily digested, fortified source of lean protein along with vitamins and vital minerals, can go a long way toward reducing or even eliminating fibromyalgia flares and other symptoms.
With improved overall health, many of the accompanying fibromyalgia ailments including fatigue, weakness, headaches, stomach ache, and even depression, can be reduced or even eliminated. The key to the Natural Treatment of fibromyalgia is proper Cellular Nutrition.
