I only live a hundred or so miles from London, but in all my seventy years I have never visited. I have read all about it and watch all the royal events with great interest, such as the jubilees and royal weddings. In certain instances I would have liked to have shown my support for Diana at her funeral and more recently at William and Kate's wedding, alas I had to stay at home and watch it all on television. The main reason I could never go, was due to my husband's ill health, and his dependency on medical treatment and instruments fixed in our home. Unfortunately I lost him too many years of ill health, he made me promise him, I would travel and see the cities of our great nation.
My best friend, who is a couple of years my senior, but just as spritely, has agreed to go on a city break in London. You have to acknowledge we are home birds, and neither of us have ever been out of our home town. It is a massive challenge for our nerves and our children. We plan to go early Friday morning, we have bus passes that will take us free of charge to the main bus terminal. It is there we will be met by our city break guide. From there we will travel to our city break hotel in the center of the city. We chose a more expensive one purely for the fact it is the nearest to what we want to see, yes we are fit but still over eighty.
The time came to catch the free bus to the terminal, it was ever so exciting and we found it hard to contain our excitement and must have looked, well sounded like two teenage girls. The city break guide was waiting as our bus pulled in. She quickly collected our bags and we were whisked off on a lovely city break coach, with luxury seats and a television screen in the head rest right in front of me.
Well in what seemed minutes we were looking at buildings bigger than we had ever seen. The guide told us what each one was and we had some headphones due to our aging hearing. It was exciting to say the least, and by the time we got to the city break hotel we would have been happy returning home.
We had so much to still to see, I have no idea how we would remember it all. In our initial excitement we forgot to take out the new cameras we both received from our kids, as a holiday gift. We have had many hours spent being shown how to use the video feature but in the excitement, it is all a vivid memory.
The city break was far beyond what we had imagined and we have already booked our next city break to Edinburgh. We are considering the next big step to Dublin, however my friend is unhappy with the ferry.
