- 1). Cut 2- to 3-inch wide strips for the frame boards using the same wood stock that you used for the cabinet door panels. The width of the frame boards is up to you, depending on your aesthetic preferences. Use a table saw to ensure a straight rip.
- 2). Cut the vertical frame boards to match the height of the cabinet doors. Use a tape measure and pencil to mark the lengths and cut the boards with a miter saw. Set the miter saw to a 45-degree angle to make a mitered, frame-corner joint cut.
- 3). Cut the horizontal frame boards to match the width of the cabinet doors. Also cut these ends at 45-degree angles.
- 4). Insert wood dowel pins in the joints to create a firm fit. Use two dowels at each joint. Mark the points at the ends of the boards for the dowels by stacking two joining boards on top of each other. Draw a horizontal line down the middle of each board, then draw two evenly spaced vertical lines. Where the lines intersect are the points for the holes. Drill holes for the dowels using a drill bit the same diameter as the dowels. Make holes at a depth that is half the length of the dowels.
- 5). Assemble the frames. Connect joints by putting a little bit of wood glue on the ends of the boards as well as in the dowel holes. Insert the dowels into the holes on one board and then plug that board into the following board.
- 6). Glue completed frames to the cabinet door panels and clamp them down while the glue dries. Secure the frames further with finish nails. Once dry, the doors can be sanded and painted, and the hinges can be attached for mounting onto the cabinets themselves.
