How to Connect 2.5 SATA to a Desktop

    Install 2.5 SATA Hard Drive in Mac Desktop

    • 1). Unplug all cables from the Mac desktop. Pull up on the release latch at the back upper, left corner of the Mac desktop. Pull the side panel off. Pull out one of the empty hard drive trays that are in the top of the Mac desktop.

    • 2). Place the soft cloth on a table. Remove the screws from the sides of the empty hard drive tray with the Phillips jeweler's screwdriver. Place the hard drive tray adapter on the soft cloth. Remove the screws from the sides of the hard drive adapter with the Phillips jeweler's screwdriver.

    • 3). Slide the 2.5 SATA hard drive, connector end facing out, into the hard drive tray adapter. Attach the screws to the side with the Phillips jeweler's screwdriver. Slide the hard drive tray adapter into the hard drive tray. Attach the screws to the side with the Phillips jeweler's screwdriver.

    • 4). Plug the 2.5 SATA connection on one end of the SATA adapter plug into the connectors on the back of the 2.5 SATA hard drive. Push the SATA adapter plug onto the connectors firmly with your fingers.

    • 5). Place the hard drive tray, SATA adapter plug end first, back into the hard drive bay. Place the side panel back onto the Mac desktop. Pull the release latch back down. Reattach the cables.

    Install 2.5 SATA Hard Drive in PC Desktop

    • 1). Unplug all cables from the PC desktop. Remove the screws from the side or back panel of the PC desktop with the Phillips screwdriver. Pull the side or back panel off the PC with your hands.

    • 2). Remove the screw from the upper corner of one of the hard drive trays that is in an empty hard drive bay. Pull the hard drive tray out of the hard drive bay. Pull the two cables out from inside of the hard drive bay.

    • 3). Place the soft cloth on a table. Remove the screws from the sides of the empty hard drive tray with the Phillips jeweler's screwdriver. Place the hard drive tray adapter on the soft cloth. Remove the screws from the sides of the hard drive adapter with the Phillips jeweler's screwdriver.

    • 4). Slide the 2.5 SATA hard drive, connector end facing out, into the hard drive tray adapter. Attach the screws to the side with the Phillips jeweler's screwdriver. Slide the hard drive tray adapter into the hard drive tray. Attach the screws to the side with the Phillips jeweler's screwdriver.

    • 5). Plug the 2.5 SATA connection on one end of the SATA adapter plug into the connectors on the back of the 2.5 SATA hard drive. Push the SATA adapter plug onto the connectors firmly with your fingers.

    • 6). Plug the two cables coming out of the hard drive bay into the appropriate connections on the SATA adapter plug. Place the hard drive tray back into its original position inside of the hard drive bay. Reattach the screw.

    • 7). Place the side or back panel back onto the PC desktop. Reattach the screws. Reattach the cables.
