- Several different types of juvenile community residential facilities serve young people. While substance abuse treatment programs may come to mind first, mental health facilities, sex offender programs, eating disorder clinics and crisis care agencies also offer important services to youth.
- Juvenile community residential facilities face strict standards due to the vulnerability of this population. In addition, these programs are often meant to deter youth from negative lifestyles, or are the last resort for juveniles prior to a detention commitment. Juvenile facilities almost always focus on the release of youth back into the community in a safe and productive manner.
- Each of these program types offer different services to juvenile patients. Case management, community service, life skills, educational or vocational training, individual, family and group counseling and recreation benefit the whole person. Some facilities specialize in gender-related issues. Some juveniles may also need the medical treatment that these programs can offer.
