- Fantasy golf is a game of consistency. Having even a couple players on your roster who miss the cut can hurt your chances that week. Instead of taking a player with a high risk and high reward potential, stick with proven producers. Pick players who make the cut regularly and are always among the top 20 players. Let the other owners try to impress everyone else by choosing a player nobody has ever heard of. More often than not, that strategy will sink them.
- Look for player trends. Has a particular golfer been playing really well over his last 5 to 10 tournaments? If so, then use him as a starter. If he performed well in the last tournament but struggled in the ones leading up to it, wait until he proves that tournament was not a fluke. The last course might have been one that fit his strengths and he only plays well on a small percentage of courses on Tour.
- Look for golfers who have played this week's course many times, which allows you to see a pattern for how well they perform there. By analyzing the player's performance on that course, you can pick a player with the right strengths for the course. If the course has been significantly redesigned in recent years, analyzing how a golfer performed on similar courses can be helpful.
- Read sports pages and the Internet regularly before finalizing your lineup for the week. Check for information about injuries that could affect the golfer's performance. Choosing a player who drops out of the tournament at the last minute because of injury can ruin your team for the week.
